with more on the story, yousuf joins us from cairo. yousuf, just how accurate do you believe those numbers actually are? do we have any confirmation whatsoever? >> well, carolin, it is important to note we have two major sources for the casualty figures. so the one hand you have the sources from the government and from ambulance services from their end, which are currently going with five people killed and 52 injured. and then on the other hand, you have the muslim brotherhood, and supporters of the ousted president mohamed morsi who have been in the two protest locations, they have their own sources, their own field hospitals, they're going with a much higher number, talking about 350 people that have been killed, and some 5,000 or so injured. be very cautious with these numbers. probably the next few hours, next 24 hours or something, much more clarity about really happened. what is clear is the smaller of the two protest camps just over there in the back ground, two kilometers or so from here, that has been cleared from protesters.

i wouldn't say eyes are on cairo to see what's happening with the proposals. eyes are more on gaza to see what's happening with the fighting. as i say, becoming more intense this morning, there was an infiltration by palestinian fighters inside israel. they came up to a tunnel, came out inside israel, split up into two groups to attack two civilian settlements nearby but they were spotted one from the air, israel hit one group with the rocket and israel says killed them all. there was a gun fight on the ground with another group. so the israelis say they killed ten palestinian fighters this morning. and apparently there are also israeli casualties but no numbers have been announced yet. at the same time, of course, the fighting in those northern suburbs of gaza, where there was such heavy fighting yesterday, that ended in those high casualty numbers, that's continuing. israel still going house to house looking for weapons stockpiles, looking for rocket launchers. the civilians still caught in the middle, one assumes by now most of the civilians, if not all, wi

the british prime minister tony blair was rushed to cairo. the palestinian leader from the west bank will also go to cairo, maybe to turkey where he may meet the political leader. so there is a lot going on in the diplomatic world to try and resurrect the possibility of a cease-fire here. yet again, i have to repeat that tired phrase, what will come first? a cease-fire or an israeli ground invasion? because israel's army is on the board were gaza, is waiting for the order to go in. it's clear the israeli government is not one to do that because it would involve significant increase in loss of life in gaza in addition to the threat it poses to the israeli army. but that does seem to be the choice at the moment. a ground invasion or a significant increase in israel's attacks on gaza or a cease-fire. we're just waiting to see what will happen in the next day or two. >> martin, thank you very much. we appreciate it. >>> getting back to our delivering alpha conference this morning, our next guest says corporate pension funds and endowment funds ha
